Pressemitteilung von Reclaim Club Culture zur neuen #unitedwestream Spendenkampagne: „Save Berlin‘s club culture in quarantine“

In Zusammenarbeit mit vielen Einzelakteur*innen starten Reclaim Club Culture und die Clubcommission Berlin heute am 18.03.2020 eine Spendenkampagne für die Berliner Clubs und zur Unterstützung der zivilen Seenotrettung. Als Teil dieser Kampagne wird in Kooperation mit Arte ab heute jeden Abend aus einem anderen Club Berlins per Livestream ein kuratiertes Programm gesendet.

Das Clubsterben in Berlin steht kurz bevor – Wir MÜSSEN die Ausbreitung des Corona-Virus JETZT stoppen und gleichzeitig das vollständige Aus der Berliner Clubkultur verhindern.
Die Berliner Clubszene ist durch COVID-19 („Corona“) und die nachvollziehbare Entscheidung der politischen Entscheidungsgewalt, dass vorerst alle Clubs geschlossen bleiben müssen, aktuell existenziell bedroht.

Auf Grund dieser unerwarteten Schließung aller Clubs, versucht ein ungewöhnlich breites Bündnis die Berliner Clubkultur zu retten: Reclaim Club Culture und die Clubcommission Berlin rufen mit Medien-Partnern wie ARTE und Radio 1/RBB über die Website www.unitedwestream.berlin und über die Spenden-Plattform Betterplace zur Unterstützung der Clubs und den betroffenen Künstler*innen, Mitarbeiter*innen und Freiräumen auf. In den Streams wird sich das vielfältige Programm der Berliner Clublandschaft wiederfinden, zu dem DJ-Sets, Live Musik und Performances gehören, aber natürlich auch Talks, Panels und weiterer Input.

Zum Start der Streamingplattform www.unitedwestream.berlin geht die gesamte Berliner Clubszene mit an Bord. Ziel ist es in erster Linie, auf den Spendenaufruf „Save Berlin‘s club culture in quarantine“ aufmerksam zu machen. Durch die behördliche Stilllegung der Clubs sind mehr als 9.000 Mitarbeiter*innen, sowie zehntausende Kunst- und Kulturschaffende schlagartig ohne Beschäftigung und die vielen für Berlin identitätsstiftenden Orte stehen vor dem Ruin. Für uns alle gilt es jetzt den Bestand an Cluborten und die damit verbundenen Solidaritätsstrukturen zu sichern.

Solidarität brauchen Viele!

Denn nicht nur die Berliner Nacht- und Feierkultur ist von den aktuellen Entwicklungen existenzbedrohend betroffen. Vielen Menschen fehlt dieser Tage die so wichtige Aufmerksamkeit und Unterstützung. Die europäischen Grenzen werden stündlich straffer gezurrt. Frauennothilfezentren werden geschlossen. Tafeln und Notunterkünfte für Wohnungs- und Obdachlose müssen ihren Betrieb einstellen.

Deswegen braucht es JETZT eine breite Solidarität. Aber wenn Solidarität beim Pass oder dem Aussehen Unterschiede macht, dann heißt das nicht Solidarität, sondern Rassismus. Unsere Solidarität gilt daher auch denen, die noch viel stärker als wir unter der Pandemie leiden, weil sie zu zehntausenden durch die Grenzpolitik der EU unter menschenverachtenden Bedingungen zusammengepfercht und politisch instrumentalisiert werden. Aus diesen Gründen gehen laut Verteilerschlüssel der Spendenkampgne „United We Stream“ 8 % der Gesamteinnahmen an den “Stiftungsfond Zivile Seenotrettung”, der mit klaren und transparenten Förderkriterien für eine zügige Mittelvergabe an NGOs in Griechenland, sowie die zivile Seenotrettung im Mittelmeer sorgt. Dadurch setzen wir ein zusätzliches solidarisches Zeichen: Es geht um uns Alle.

Wir schließen uns dem Appell von Medico International „Aufnehmen statt sterben lassen“ vom 17.03.2020 an und rufen dazu auf, diesen so schnell wie möglich in die Tat um zu setzen.

Clubsterben stoppen!

Clubs sind nicht nur Orte hedonistischer Feierkultur. Es sind auch Orte der Solidarität und des Zusammenhalts, in denen viele widerständische Gruppen verwurzelt sind, die sich im Kampf gegen patriarchale und kapitalistische Strukturen der Ausbeutung organisieren, sich für den Kampf gegen den #mietenwahnsinn vernetzen, für Freiräume und die Rettung des Klima streiten. Mit der Schließung solcher Kulturorte, von denen ein Teil durch Soli-Partys wichtige Unterstützungsarbeit für antifaschistische, antirassistische und feministische Strukturen leisten, fehlt es gerade überall an notwendigen Geldern. Berliner Clubkultur bedeutet auch eine politische Praxis: für eine offene und queere Gesellschaft: antirassistisch, antifaschistisch, antikapitalistisch, inklusiv, bunt und mit unkommerziellen Einhörnern.

Dazu Rosa Rave: „Lasst uns jetzt zusammenhalten, Nachbarinnen, Geflüchteten und nicht-sesshaften Menschen in Quarantäne helfen und im #solorave zu Hause feiern und spenden, damit wir uns möglichst bald wieder auf den Dancefloors dieser Stadt vergesellschaften können.“

Der größte Dank geht an alle, die gerade Versorgungs- und Sorgearbeit in den Krankenhäusern leisten, die im Privaten und zu Hause emotionale Care-Arbeit übernehmen. Diese Arbeit wird vielerorts von weiblich-sozialisierten Personen übernommen. Hier und in vielen weiteren Bereichen zeigt die Corona-Epidemie gerade schonungslos auf, an welchen Orten und in welchen Bereichen ein radikales Umdenken nötig ist. Hoffentlich bietet das die Chance für eine Abkehr vom bestehendem kapitalistischen „Immer weiter so“. Corona stoppen. Clubsterben verhindern. Patriarchat abschaffen. Kapitalismus überwinden. Neue Rechte in Quarantäne.

Für mehr bezahlte und wertgeschätze Sorgearbeit und bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen für alle.
Für die Aussetzung von Zwangsräumungen ab sofort und auf Dauer.
Für die Garantie auf faire Asylverfahren und ein Bleiberecht für alle.
Für die Abschaffung aller Jobcenter und anderer staatlicher Repressionsbehörden.
Für die Rekommunalisierung von Krankenhäusern und den Ausbau von Kindertagesstätten.
Für die Enteignung aller privater Wohnungsbaugesellschaften und weiterer systemirrelevanter Konzernstrukturen.
Für eine selbstorganisierte, solidarische und klimaneutrale Stadt.
Für die sofortige Aussetzung des blutigen EU-Türkei Deals.
Für die sofortige Evakuierung aller Schutzsuchenden auf Lesbos.

Reclaim Club Culture ist ein Netzwerk aus Veranstalterinnen, Clubs- und Festivalbetreiberinnen, sowie Kollektiven, Forscherinnen und Kulturschaffenden der alternativen Clubkultur. From Reclaim Club Culture regarding the new #unitedwestream fundraising campaign „Save Berlin‘s Club Culture in Quarantine“, March 18, 2020

In cooperation with many individual actors, Reclaim Club Culture and the Club Commission Berlin are launching a fundraising campaign for Berlin clubs, and in support of civilian sea rescue initiatives. As part of the campaign, in cooperation with ARTE, a curated program will be broadcasted every evening from a different club in Berlin via livestream, starting from today, March 18, 2020.

The death of Berlin clubs is imminent if we don‘t take action – we MUST stop the spread of COVID-19 („corona“) NOW and at the same time prevent the complete disappearance of Berlin‘s club culture. Berlin‘s club scene is currently existentially threatened by corona, and the understandable decision by political authorities that all clubs must remain closed for the time being.

Due to the unexpected closure of all clubs, an unusually broad alliance has been started to save Berlin‘s club culture: Reclaim Club Culture and the Clubcommission Berlin, together with media partners including ARTE and Radio 1/RBB, are calling for support for the clubs and all artists, employees and free spaces affected. The campaign will be put into effect via the website www.unitedwestream.berlin and the donation platform Betterplace. The streams will feature the diverse program of Berlin‘s club scene, including DJ sets, live music and performances, but of course also talks, panels, and other inputs.

The entire Berlin club scene will be on board the streaming platform www.unitedwestream.berlin. The primary goal of it is to draw attention to the appeal for the donation campaign „Save Berlin‘s Club Culture in Quarantine“. More than 9,000 employees, and tens of thousands of artists are suddenly out of work due to the official closure of the clubs. Many places that have shaped Berlin‘s identity are on the brink of ruin. Now it is crucial for all of us to secure the existence of club locations and the solidarity structures connected to and associated with them. 

Solidarity is needed by many! 

Not only Berlin‘s nightlife and celebration culture is threatened by current developments. Many people lack the attention and support that is currently so crucial to survival. The European borders are being tightened by the hour. Women‘s emergency aid centres are being closed. Soup kitchen and emergency shelters for the homeless are closing.

Broad solidarity is needed NOW. However, if solidarity differentiates between people on the basis of their passports or appearance, it is not solidarity, but racism. Our solidarity therefore extends to those who are suffering from the pandemic even more than we are. Tens of thousands are still being crammed together and politically exploited under inhuman conditions by the EU‘s border policy. That‘s why 8% of total donations revenue will go to the „Civilian Sea Rescue Foundation Fund” via the „United We Stream“ donation campaign. This will ensure the rapid allocation of funds to NGOs in Greece and those organising civil rescue missions in the Mediterranean Sea with clear and transparent funding criteria. Through this, we are sending an additional signal of solidarity: It‘s concerning us all.We therefore follow Medico International in their appeal, „Refugees welcome! Don‘t shoot“ (17/03/2020), and call for its implementation as soon as possible. 

Stop the death of Berlin clubs! 

Clubs are not only places of hedonistic celebration. They are also places of solidarity and cohesion, where many groups of resistance are rooted. They organise themselves in the fight against patriarchal and capitalist structures of exploitation. They network to fight against the rent madness, or to fight for free urban spaces and for climate justice. The closure of such cultural sites, with some of them providing important support for anti-fascist, anti-racist and queer-feminist structures through solidarity parties, will have an immense effect on such structures as necessary funds for their important work will be missing. The Berlin club culture also stands for a political practice: for an open and queer society that is anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-capitalist, inclusive, colourful, and equipped with non-commercial unicorns.

Rosa Rave*: „Let‘s stick together now, let‘s help our neighbours, refugees and non-settled people in quarantine. Let‘s celebrate and donate at #solorave at home and donate, in order to socialise again on the dance floors of this city as soon as possible“.

Our greatest thanks goes to all those who are currently providing health care, who work in hospitals and those who do supply and infrastructure maintenance work . To those who are taking on emotional care work in private affairs and at home. In many cases this work is done by individuals socialized and identified as female. Here and in many other areas, the corona epidemic shows mercilessly in which areas and in which regions of the world women* are the most vulnerable. Here and in many other parts of the world, the corona epidemic relentlessly points out where and in which areas a radical readjustment of our way of thinking is needed. Hopefully, this will offer the chance for a let-go from the existing capitalist mantra of the „business as usual“. Stop Corona. Prevent club death. Abolish patriarchy. Overcome capitalism. Putting the New and Alt Right into quarantine. 

For more paid and valued care work and unconditional basic income for all.
For the suspension of forced evictions immediately and permanently.
For the guarantee of fair asylum procedures and a right of residence for all.
For the abolition of all job centres and other repressive authorities of the state.
For the munizipalization of hospitals and the expansion of day care centres.
For the expropriation of all private housing companies and other systemically irrelevant corporate structures.
For a self-organised, solidarity-based and climate-neutral city.
For the immediate suspension of the bloody EU-Turkey deal.
For the immediate evacuation of all those seeking protection on Lesbos. Support your local club.

Reclaim Club Culture is a network of event- and partyorganizers, clubs and festivals, collectives, researchers, artists and cultural workers of the alternative club culture.
In the most recent years Reclaim Club Culture has organized and supported a variety of demonstrations and direct action against the AfD, the shut-down policy of the European Union, as well as for a change in city development policy, against gentrification, against the death of clubs and for climate justice. Together with many other initiatives of the civil society Reclaim Club Culture organizes resistance against the rise of Fascism and against neoliberal authoritarian State Politics.

Rosa Rave* functions as the spokes person for the alliance in public affairs. She is a multi-voiced antifascist club culture activist of the future.
